Charcoal, well we all love a barbie don't we ? But did you know that charcoal can be used as a heat source for smelting metal and had the invention of charcoal not been made then man would not have progressed from the stone age to the iron age.

It is also possible to create your own charcoal at home and we intend to show you how once we have re read the information we have and of course try it out ourselves. We aim to make a charcoal burner / maker out of an old Gas Bottle but any basic metal tube with a couple of funnels and door ends can suffice.

Biochar is another name for charcoal but biochar is made differently in that it uses technology and a treatment process called pyrollisis. At the moment i believe this is a way to turn any waste into charcoal / biochar where as charcoal itself has to be made from burning hardwoods and thus releases CO2.

This topic needs more research by myself so it may not be as acurate as i'd like it to be at the moment.
